Frequently asked questions.

New to Defined or career-connected deeper learning? Here are the questions we hear most often — and the answers our team gives every day.

Section 01

About Defined

What is Defined Learning?

Defined Learning is a K-12 platform of career-connected project-based learning resources. Teachers use Defined to give students authentic, scenario-based performance tasks that connect classroom content to real careers. The platform includes curriculum, teacher resources, rubrics, and student-facing materials — all standards-aligned and ready to use.

What products does Defined offer?

Defined's ecosystem includes four platforms:

  • Defined Learning — K-12 project-based curriculum and performance tasks
  • Defined Careers — Career exploration, matching, and future-ready planning for students
  • Defined Academy — Professional learning and micro-credentials for educators
  • Defined Goals — Portrait of a Graduate measurement and reporting

Most districts access multiple products as part of a single partnership.

How is Defined different from other curriculum providers?

Defined is built specifically around career-connected deeper learning — every task is framed around a real career scenario, not just academic content. Our platform is grounded in Understanding by Design (UbD) and High-Quality PBL research, and every resource is designed to move students from passive learners to active, career-ready problem solvers.

Section 02

Implementation

How long does it take to get started?

Most teachers can complete a Getting Started course in about two hours and begin using Defined in their classroom the same day. Deeper implementation — including professional learning cohorts and district-wide rollout — is a multi-year journey, and our team supports districts at every stage.

Do teachers need special training to use Defined?

No prior PBL experience is required. Defined is designed so that any teacher can start with a single performance task and build from there. Defined Academy provides self-paced courses, micro-credentials, and live coaching for educators who want to go deeper.

Does Defined align to my state's standards?

Yes. Defined's curriculum is aligned to state and national standards across ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Computer Science. Our team can provide alignment documentation for your specific state on request.
