David Reese, ED. D.
Chief Academic Officer
Dr. David L. Reese has served as the Chief Academic Officer for Defined for the past ten years. Dave leads the Curriculum and Professional Learning teams of which the Instructional Leadership Team is an integral part. His focus is on helping to develop and implement the educational vision for Defined. This work utilizes the structures of Understanding by Design and Project Based Learning to provide deeper learning experiences for all students. To accomplish our educational vision, Dave guides our teams in the development performance tasks, projects, and associated resources and creation of professional learning opportunities for educators and educational systems to become comfortable and proficient through this teaching and learning process. His work focuses on his passion for supporting all students through engaging and relevant learning to help them succeed in the world beyond school.
Prior to joining Defined, Dave spent more than twenty years working with K-12 students as a science teacher, curriculum specialist, Curriculum Director and central office leadership roles in Pennsylvania. His educational credentials include a Master’s in Secondary School Administration and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. For the past 20 years he has taught Master’s and Doctoral courses in all areas of curriculum and assessment, as well as professional learning leadership for Wilkes University for the past 20 years. He had amazing opportunities to teach curriculum-centered courses in Muscat, Oman and Istanbul, Turkey and has led hundreds of presentations and workshops nationally and internationally for educators and leadership teams.
Dr. Reese resides in northeastern Pennsylvania and enjoys a variety of sports, loud music, food and travel. He played rugby for 15 years at Bloomsburg University and for the Wilkes Barre Breakers before retiring after one too many injuries.
