New York & Defined

Defined & New York Alignment

Alignment with New York

Defined’s content aligns with the New York State Learning Standards by helping bridge classroom content with authentic career applications, enabling students to develop and transfer knowledge while building essential future-ready skills.

Our ecosystem of career-connected deeper learning resources supports New York’s Next Generation Learning Standards, the Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) Learning Standards, and the state’s emphasis on Portrait of a Graduate attributes. We provide schools and districts with high-quality content and an integrated assessment system that helps set and measure Portrait of a Graduate goals ensuring students are prepared for success in postsecondary education, careers, and civic life.

Career-Connected Learning

Defined’s comprehensive career-connected learning platform supports the implementation of New York’s CDOS Learning Standards, Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program Areas, and the state’s broader vision for college, career, and civic readiness. Our ecosystem empowers schools and districts to deepen career exploration, foster student engagement, and align instruction with New York’s priority industry sectors and workforce needs.

Defined features hands-on, minds-on projects that span all CTE program areas and career clusters, immersing students in authentic industry scenarios that build real-world skills and foster deeper learning. Students develop critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills while gaining exposure to career opportunities empowering them to make informed choices about college, career, and life after high school.

In alignment with New York’s Perkins V State Plan, the CDOS Commencement Credential, and the Multiple Pathways to Graduation initiative, Defined provides students with opportunities to explore career pathways and postsecondary options, ensuring equitable access to meaningful, future-ready experiences. Our resources help students demonstrate the knowledge and competencies required to meet CDOS standards and graduation requirements.

Additionally, Defined enhances Work-Based Learning (WBL) opportunities across the state by connecting classroom learning to authentic workplace experiences. By supporting New York’s Work-Based Learning Continuum, our platform strengthens district efforts to expand internships, job shadowing, and project-based simulations that reinforce employability skills. These experiences directly support the College, Career, and Civic Readiness Index (CCCRI), preparing all learners to enter the workforce with confidence, adaptability, and the skills demanded by New York’s evolving economy.
